Check Engine Light On? Do This: OBD4Everyone Ep. 14
In this episode of OBD4Everyone, we will show you what to do and what NOT to do when your check engine light is on.

I have enjoyed watching your videos about OBD Fusion. I have that app and it is realy good. I have tried to set up a user-defined pid in Settings. I do ok until I get to “OB Mode” and “PID Number”. I can’t find a list anywhere on the internet that gives this information and ties it to its sensor. Please consider a video about setting up user-defined pids including how to find the OBD Modes and PID Numbers. While searching the internet I have seen there are many people looking for this information without success. Thanks for your work on OBD.
Hi Bruce,
I’m glad you are enjoying the OBD Fusion videos. There’s more on the way 🙂
What vehicle are you trying this on and what are you entering for the user-defined PID?
If it is a Nissan or Infiniti, I don’t think it will work, since OBD Fusion doesn’t support diagnostic start/stop commands.
BUT their $15 enhanced diagnostic add-on does a great job and is VERY easy to use.
There are many OBD Modes. Mode $01 is for live data and the PIDs are defined by the Society of Automotive engineers (SAE) to ensure all scanners can access the values or status of the PID. OBD Fusion’s diagnostic report shows all the Mode $01 pics and values.
OBD mode $22 is used to access additional or enhanced PIDs that the dealership mechanic has access to with their special scan tools. BUT you need to know the 4 digit PID, scaling factor, equation and a few other things.
This information is very hard to find and varies by manufacturer.
Here is an example of engine oil temperature for a Ford F150:
PID 221310
Long Name: Engine Oil Temp
Short Name: EOT
Min.: 0.0
Max 300.0
Scale Factor: x1
Unit Type: (deg. symbol) C (not sure about this, I’m reading this not hooked to the truck)
Equation: (((A*256)+B)/100)-40
OBD Header: Auto
Let me know what car and the PID you are trying to set up.
